Need financial assistance? Applying for financial aid can be a daunting process. We’re here to help! Our Student Finance Office works hard to help you identify and coordinate the resources you need to finance your legal education. Financial aid is available to those who qualify. What’s Next

Submit Your Tuition Deposit

Western State requires a non-refundable tuition deposit to reserve your place in the entering class. This $300 deposit is payable by check or credit card by April 6th. (For later admits, please see your admit letter for the due date of this deposit.) A second deposit of $200 is due on June 1st. The second deposit must be paid prior to registration for classes. Both payments will be applied toward your first semester tuition.

To pay by check, make it payable to “Western State College of Law” and mail the payment directly to the Admissions Office at 1 Banting Irvine, CA 92618-3601.

Send Official Transcript

All students at Western State are required to submit official copies of all pending admission documents – including, but not limited to, an official transcript(s) from the college/university attended, showing all undergraduate degrees conferred — no later than the 45th day of the semester. 

Apply for Financial Aid

Fill out your financial aid application and complete your FAFSA as soon as possible and make an appointment to speak to Sassanda Gutierrez in Student Finance to plan the financing of your law school education. Sassanda can be reached at (714) 459-1119 and

Keep Mailing Address Up-To-Date

Please ensure your mailing and email addresses are up to date. You will receive time critical and important information from Western State throughout the spring and summer.

Buy Your Books

The booklist will be available in late July. Most students purchase online or at a local legal bookstore that stocks our titles.
*If you are enrolling in spring, the booklist will be available mid-December.

Attend Mandatory Orientation

Orientation is mandatory for entering and transfer students. Details of the program and schedule will be sent to registered students.

Attend Introduction to Legal Methods Class

Introduction to Legal Methods is a preparatory course held during the week before the main term begins. It is for first year students and is a part of a one unit required graded class in your first semester; attendance is mandatory.

Register with the California Committee of Bar Examiners

All law students planning to take the California bar exam must register as law students with the State Bar of California within 90 days of their start of classes at Western State. Registration is available at

Read the Student Handbook

You will receive a copy of the Student Handbook which contains all student policies, code of conduct and useful reference information during Orientation. Read and retain for reference.

When will I receive information on orientation?

Information on Orientation will be included in the Registration Packet.

When/how do I register for classes?

You will need to fill out the Registration & Payment form found in your Registration packet. For the first semester only, the Registrar will automatically register you in the appropriate classes and sections and send you a schedule confirmation. In future semesters, you will register online.

How do I order books?

When will I receive my tuition bill and when is payment due?

The Bursar’s office will mail tuition bills soon after you register. Tuition and fees are due by the date specified in your tuition bill. Contact the Bursar’s Office with questions at (714) 459-1118.

How do I obtain a parking permit?

Parking permits are issued by the Student Services Office. If you have questions about parking permits, please call Student Services at (714) 459-1120.

When will my student loan refund be available?

In most cases, funds are disbursed close to or AFTER the start of the semester. Refunds to students of excess funds, if applicable, begin AFTER the start of each semester. It is important that you have enough money on hand to pay for books and supplies as well as at least one month’s living costs.

When do I get my network username/password and e-mail account?

This information will be sent soon after your registration is processed.


Parking permits and student IDs are issued by the Student Services Office.
